People Who Quit Their Jobs to Travel the World

Some people encouraged themselves and chose to make a big adjustment in their lives.

This is a dream many people have but just a few take the leap of faith necessary to make their dream come true.

I intend to share with you a very fascinating tale concerning those people who quit their jobs to travel the world. I believe it is fascinating.

Meet Joe Veix and his tale:

People Who Quit Their Jobs to Travel the World

On paper, my life seemed great. I had a dream task, a swanky apartment or condo, and also a caring girlfriend. However, something was off. I could not bear being chained to my work desk in a stuffy workplace any longer.

So I determined to give up and take a trip around the globe, bringing just my ticket, a tiny knapsack, and my huge, depend on fund.

My colleagues were shocked. How could I so delicately discard whatever I combated so difficult to achieve? But I do not anticipate every person to “obtain” me. I’m a free spirit, whose father has a South American rubber empire.

I am ready to function by packing my bag and also tossing out a lot of my ownerships.

Whatever didn’t bring me delight went straight into the garbage.

You shouldn’t possess a great deal of “stuff” to be happy, specifically when you can get whatever you, later on, recognize that you require with your substantial inheritance.

After that, I booked a business-class seat, and sent a fast SMS message to my sweetheart telling her that I was leaving the country forever, and also was off.

First Months

My first couple of months roaming the world were life-altering.

Every day, I upgraded my Instagram with photos of my preferred sights: cones filled with scoops of shining gelato; my hand gently resting on a café table, near an early edition of “When travelling”; selfies of me embracing clinically depressed tigers as well stoned on sedatives to sink themselves.

Still, I should see more. My wanderlust had turned me right into a wanderlust.

As a citizen of the world, I seldom obtain loneliness. Anywhere I go, I fulfil such diverse teams of individuals. In hostels, I’ve shared beers with pleasant British as well as Australian twenty-somethings.

In resorts, I’ve drunk wine with pleasant British as well as Australian forty-somethings. Most of us came to be lifelong friends, despite the language barriers.

As soon as, outside the train station of a tiny angling town, I met a simple man named Greebo that marketed flowers as well as numerous inexpensive trinkets for a living.

Unburdened by the features of modern-day life, his friendliness was unlike anything I have ever run into in the States. Greebo was happy to open up to me concerning his life, as long as I kept acquiring roses.

Captivated by our simple chatter, several of his close friends strayed over to sign up for the discussion.

Every one of our superficial distinctions quickly dissolved. Inside, we are simply human beings, besides, exchanging powerful worldwide money.

As I left town, I cast one last glance back at Greebo.

Among his good friends playfully tossed him to the ground as well as thumbed his eyes as the others seized all the money I had provided him. I could not assist however grin. It felt good to earn a difference in the lives of these simple people.

End of the Tale

Of course, this “no reservations” lifestyle isn’t for everybody. In many methods, it’s harder than the old company work.

Numerous shops don’t accept my Centurion card. Often it’s hard to obtain also one bar of cell service, which makes Instagramming even more gelato a genuine battle.

Yet don’t worry about me!

Whenever I start to get homesick, I remember the old battle of life and shudder.

All those bleary-eyed suckers packed into the train, most likely to their poor work, losing their entire lives to pay for pointless things like “rental fees” and “medical insurance” and also “student-loan payments.”

That lifestyle isn’t for me.

Possibly I’m simply an insane daydreamer who likewise obtains a regular monthly no-strings-attached sixty thousand bucks transferred into my bank account, yet I won’t be restrained so quickly.

Steps to Become a Permanent Traveller

The Joe Veix story is inspiring to learn about people who quit their jobs to travel the world but, how can we make it possible?

I looked at many sources and finally found some beneficial guidance.

This is a summary of the steps to follow.

Change Your Attitude + Surround Yourself With Inspiring People

My friends and family were not overjoyed when I first revealed that I was going to tour South America by myself as a young 20-something lady with $25,000 in student debt. I was heartbroken.

But I’m also looking forward to proving everyone incorrect.

My objective in telling you all of this is that you should psychologically prepare yourself to be mocked.

Prepare yourself for the possibility that those you love and care about will oppose your decision. Whatever path you select in life, you will encounter doubters and “haters.”

It’s perfectly OK for a woman not to marry or have children. You aren’t being selfish or insane if you want something different.

Select a Location

6 months to a year before your travel

First and foremost, which section of the world fascinates you the most? Where have you wished to travel your entire life?

What are your favourite foods and where do they come from?

Forget about the money (!!! ): Australia, for example, is costly, but you can always get a work visa and travel while you’re there.

Although Europe is pricey, you can always couch surf or house sit for free.

Make a rough itinerary.

Please promise me that if you take anything away from this book, you will not plan out every day, week, or even month of your trip.

If you do, you will be angry with yourself.

The ideal way to travel is to have a general notion of where you want to go and what you want to see but to keep your options open. Because you were flexible with your plans, the best portions of your trip will happen.

Believe me when I say that I meticulously prepared my entire three-month journey to South America.

The entire time felt rushed to me. I was invited to some very wonderful stuff, but I had to decline because I had a flight or a meeting to attend.

This is why I wouldn’t recommend it during the holidays.

I recommend purchasing a one-way ticket and following the wind.

Naturally, you should have a budget, ideas about where to go and what to see, and be prepared (more information below).

It allows you to spend more time in the cities you enjoy.

It’s a good idea to plan out your lodging for your first few days or weeks abroad for safety’s sake and then move from there.

Work exchange is a terrific way to ease into your vacation.

Work exchange opportunities can be found on websites like Worldpackers. The arrangement is that you volunteer for 20 to 25 hours each week in exchange for lodging and meals.

Work exchange is a fantastic way to learn a new language, immerse yourself in a new culture, and save money by travelling for extended periods!

Spending Less & Saving Money

The good news is that you don’t have to be wealthy to explore the world. To travel for a year, you don’t need $20,000 to do so.

I met a 40-year-old British man who spent a year travelling with only a SATCHEL *shook*.

I also met a Dutch girl who had no cash and relied on bartending, couch surfing and hitchhiking to pay for her Central American travels.

At the end of the day, money should not be a factor in deciding whether or not to pursue your aspirations.

As a general rule, set aside $50 each day or $1,000 per month. It will be determined by the region of the world you visit and the mode of transportation you use.

Make Preparations for Your Departure

You need to prepare your departure in detail.

Make a checklist to be sure you have everything you need for your travel.

All the people who quit their jobs to travel the world planned even the little detail to enjoy the best experience possible.

You can find more about the preparations in this article.

Quitting your job

There is no better feeling than giving your two-week notice, believe me.

If you’ve been with a company for a while and believe that a month’s notice is more acceptable, that’s fine as well. Make the decision that seems right for you.

This is a rather self-explanatory phase. But there’s one thing I’ll say: occupations are replaceable.

You might not live to see it tomorrow.

When you return, your job (or a position similar to it) will most likely still be there. Birthdays, anniversaries, weekend girl’s vacations, and even the birth of your closest friend’s first child may be missed.

It’s a drag to be without those things. It is very awful.

But do you know what’s more crucial? Living the life you want to live, not the life you think others want you to live.

We must sometimes be the lone wolf and take the initial step for future generations to have the fortitude to follow in our footsteps.

Go on a trip!

YOU ACHIEVED IT!!!!

Your flight has been confirmed. You were able to save money. Your parents are perplexed, yet they support you. I’m so proud of you for following your heart and trusting your instincts!

Your trip will not be without flaws. At times, it will be difficult, irritating, lonely, and depressing.

During your journey, you will grow and learn more than any educational system could ever teach you. I’m ecstatic for you and your adventure. Please keep me in the loop. xoxo

  1. This is a fantastic post, and you are very brave for pursuing your dream. From the perch of one who would love to have done so, but fell to Cupid’s arrow at a young age and woke up not too many mornings later with responsibilities I still carry (with joy, mind you), although the children are long grown and gone, and the grandchildren are old enough to learn to whittle, I applaud you.

  2. For some reason having just read this account, I felt compelled to comment. My tale is a bit different than quitting the job and traveling. I worked for 20 some years in IT and finally reached the moment. The moment of retirement. Kids were grown and trying to adult. I was old. My company did not want me to go. But go I did. I gave up all my stuff which really was not too much. Donated clothing, gave the car to my daughter after paying it off. An amazing thing happens when you pay off a car. Suddenly its not just one debt you are freed from. You are also freed from insurance, service for the car, bridge tolls, etc. After things like this I found myself debt free, getting social security retirement, and with a savings account I could fall back on.

I ended up with a life fitting in a 45L backpack and a room I rented empty. The airplane tickets said one way to Japan and then Vietnam. And that’s where I am now and have been for 3 months living. Living and being in wonder in Hanoi Vietnam. In a few days I leave for Hong Kong and then come back and move to south Vietnam for a turn at Ho Chi Minh City and then to Da Lat. I will never go back. There is no back. At work, a friend had this sign that said, “don’t look back. we are not going that way”.

  3. We are seeing more individuals who find the courage to quit their corporate jobs in search of something more meaningful, myself included. Capitalism promotes materialism and status, not to mention greed and shameful behavior – people are tired of this. Humans are biologically programmed to connect with people, not things. Social connection, contributing ones time to help others is what will bring about the most fulfillment in life.
